Al Green censure resolution over Trump protest clears House hurdle

The resolution primbling D-Texas MP Al Green survived the procedural hurdle late Wednesday afternoon and teeed measures for a homewide vote.

R-Wash. Rep. Dan Newhouse introduced a denunciation resolution against the Texas Democrats earlier that day amid the outrage of the GOP against the Democrats who protested President Donald Trump's speech to Congress on Tuesday.

The Democrats called for a vote to lead the resolution to the table, which would have effectively killed it. However, it will not be passed and a vote on the measure itself is expected this week.

Fox News Digital has been told that Newhouse had been in contact with House GOP leadership over his resolution since Trump's speech ended last night.

There have been multiple resolutions circulating among House Republicans to denounce Green for interrupting Trump's speech, but Newhouse appears to be a measure of the House GOP leader's blessing.

“I think it was the first thing I've left the gate,” R-La said. speaker Mike Johnson told reporters Wednesday morning. “I think [Green’s protest is] Unprecedented. Certainly in modern times. It wasn't an exciting statement. It was a planned, long-term protest you know. ”

The 77-year-old Democrat has been removed from Trump Joint address of Congress on Tuesday night after repeated confusion at the beginning of the president's speech.

He cried out “You have no obligation!” in Trump, who promoted Republican victory in the House, Senate and White House.

Greene remained rebellious when he stopped to talk to the White House pool on the ground floor of the Capitol after being dumped from the room on the second floor of the house Trump was talking about.

“I am willing to suffer any punishment I have available. I have not told anyone, 'Don't punish me.' Green said, according to a White House Pool report. “But it's worth letting people know that there are some of us who are willing to stand up to this president's desire to cut Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security.”

In addition to the Newhouse resolution, R-Texas MP Troy Nehls has made his own measurements with over 30 House GOP co-sponsors.
