Vice President JD Vance visited the US southern border on Wednesday and said Mexican commitment to stop the flow of fentanyl will help lift the Trump administration's tariffs.
Speaking to reporters about how Mexico could ultimately lift a 25% tariff on all Trump's imports, the vice president said the country must take border security seriously.
“The President says that it takes a sustained commitment from the Mexican government to take border security work seriously.” Vance said. “We know that fentanyl is the biggest cause of death among young Americans, and a significant portion is made in China. They come to Mexico. They are manufactured in Mexico and are crossing the border by Mexican drug cartels.”
Vance said the Trump administration hopes fewer Americans have died from fentanyl overdose and “apply as much leverage as possible to the Mexican government.”

“The president clearly cares Americans very deeply,” he concluded. “He serves the Americans first. I think he actually has a great favor with the Mexican people because if they don't control these cartels, the Mexican people will wake up in the state of Narco, where the cartels have more power than their own government.”
As reported last month by Breitbart News, they arrested a slump in January of a third of immigrants illegally crossing the US southwestern border.
