President Trump's senior trade adviser, Peter Navarro, said Wednesday that Canada has been “taken over” to the Mexican cartel.
“What I want to say to all the world leaders who get up when we want is to be fair and stop killing our people to them.
“Canada was taken over by the Mexican cartel, Brett,” he continued. It is emphasized by MediaIte..
Navarro's comments come amidst the tensions between Canada and the US over tariffs. On Tuesday, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on the country's northern neighbours and Mexico, along with a 10% tariff on Chinese goods. The president pointed to his frustration with fentanyl streams to the US, but experts previously pointed out that a relatively small amount of fentanyl would come to the US via the northern border.
Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford, who is extremely vocal in opposition to Trump's tariffs, said Tuesday he hopes the tariff fight between his country and the United States will end in a matter of days.
“I hope it will stop within the next few days…and I'm not just saying that,” Ford told News Nation's Blake Berman on “Hill” Tuesday.
“It's an absolute disaster for both countries, people will be unemployed, plants will be closed, assembly lines will be closed, and inflation will occur within a few days,” he continued. “So this is a shame. One person has a responsibility and that's President Trump.”
In the appearance of his “special report,” Navarro said, “After seeing today's press conference, the reporter said something along the line… he was caught like four pounds of fentanyl at the Canadian border.”
“Let me do a little fentanyl mathematics for you,” Navarro added. “4 pounds will kill a million people.”
