Boots on the Ground? Canada Suggests Joining ‘Coalition of the Willing’ in Ukraine

Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair said Wednesday that Canada is open to sending troops to the “coalition of will” to protect Ukraine from Russian invasions.

The comments continued guarantee He told the radical left-wing prime minister Justin Trudeau that “everything is on the table” about Canada's sacrifices to protect Ukraine. The Trudeau government is the most vocal opposed in the world to oppose full-scale Ukrainian invasion, which began in 2022 and has been regularly involved in supporting the war effort with the Voorazian president of the Ukrainian president.

It also followed calls from European leaders, and strengthened support in Ukraine. Ukraine's support has not surpassed Russian fossil fuel purchases, following a very public disagreement between President Zelensky and President Donald Trump at the White House last week. In particular, British and French leaders have proposed the establishment of a “coalition of will” at Ukrainian peacekeeping forces stations to discourage Russia from further violating its country's sovereignty.

“Canada is ready and can contribute to its strength,” Blair said. I said Wednesday, according to CBC. “However, we also believe there is an important debate that needs to be made regarding the security assurances of the Ukraine and foreign military that we serve,” Blair reportedly emphasized that Canada is actively discussing the deployment of military forces to Europe, a new development in Canada's participation in the Anglos Fair attempt to support Ukraine.

While attempts to build a “ambitious coalition” from Europe and the British countries to protect Ukraine's peace is a response to growing concern that Washington is not willing to endlessly bankroll Ukrainian troops, Blair suggested that Canada puts boots in American support and obscures the situation that the Canadian artisans' objectives are in.

“We want to be a part of it, but we believe we'll need security guarantees from the US,” he said. I explained it.

“Leading by the UK and France, peacekeepers could see many European countries on the ground in eastern Ukraine if there was a ceasefire or peace settlement,” the CBC explained. “The idea is that the presence of Western forces would prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin from trying to rebuild and conquer everything in Ukraine.”

In particular, regardless of the American desire to participate in such efforts, the CBC emphasized that this power requires “security guarantees, particularly from Americans.”

The Canadian outlet suggested that the purpose of creating this informal coalition was to send troops to Ukraine without the use of NATO devices, and to negate concerns from several NATO countries who have expressed their reluctance to fully embrace the efforts of the Ukrainian war.

Before Blair's comments this week, Canada's comments CTV News For Canada, it is clearly ally in the conflict, and he cited international legal experts who suggested that joining Ukrainian peacekeeping forces was not legal for Canada. President of the Canada Global Affairs Institute, David Perry, noted that the UN does not allow non-equal countries to participate in peacekeeping operations in conflict zones.

Ukrainian President Voldy Mie Zelensky (L) and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (R) share a close moment on the stairs on the way to the summit held at the Lancaster House in central London on March 2, 2025.

“It will be hard to see what role Canada can actually play as a neutral observer and arbitrator in anything,” Perry explained. “This will be a situation where the Russians have good reason why we cannot actually offer independent roles.

Canada has repeatedly welcomed and respected Zelensky for his efforts to Russian invade. In one infamous episode, the Canadian Parliament honored Zelensky in a presentation by guest Ukrainian veteran Jaroslav Hunka.

The Canadian Defense Minister's comments were made in a nationwide broadcast speech by French President Emmanuel Macron to strengthen his commitment to Ukraine.

“The future of Europe does not need to be decided in Washington or Moscow. The threat has returned to the east, ending the innocence of the last 30 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall,” Macron declared. “The path to peace cannot be achieved through the abandonment of Ukraine. Peace cannot be concluded at any cost under the Russian dictatt. Peace is not the surrender of Ukraine.”

Macron declared Russia a direct threat to France. The French president also reportedly began considering using French nuclear deterrent to protect Europe from Russia.
