Ukrainian President Voldy Mee Zelensky confirmed that his team will meet with American counterparts in Saudi Arabia for peace talks. The statement comes just a week after Zelensky's oval office clashed with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, and ended with him leaving the White House earlier than expected.
“Next Monday, I plan a visit to Saudi Arabia for a meeting with the Crown Prince. After that, my team will remain in Saudi Arabia to work with our American partners,” Zelenskyy said, “Ukraine is most interested in peace.”

Reading Trump Zelensky's letter, they met with support from GOP and independent voters.
Zelenskyy included a message to President Trump in the Post, vowing that Ukraine “we are working and will continue to work constructively for a quick, reliable peace.”
On Thursday, Ukrainian opposition leader, former president Petro Poroshenko and former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko confirmed they were in their own consultations with the United States, the Guardian reported. However, they deny that it is part of the White House's alleged plan to remove Zelensky from power.
In a post criticizing Zelensky before the explosion of the oval office, President Trump denounced Ukrainian leaders for not holding the election. However, Poroshenko, who lost to Zelenskyy in 2019, said she opposed the wartime elections and thought it should take place when martial law ends, according to the Guardian.
Russia appeared to respond to Zelensky's agreement that his team would take part in the consultations by launching an attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Khalschenko has confirmed “large missile and drone” attacks on its Facebook page, according to the Associated Press. At least 10 people, including children, are reportedly injured, the Associated Press reported, citing authorities.
“Ukraine is ready to pursue a path to peace, and it is Ukraine that has been seeking peace since the first seconds of this war. The challenge is to force Russia to stop the war,” Zelensky wrote about the attack in a post in X.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said attacks on Ukraine's energy supply were legal as they were “linked to the Ukrainian military industrial complex and weapons production,” according to the Associated Press.
Russia attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure multiple times during the bloody Three Years' War. In April 2024, Russia destroyed one of Ukraine's largest power plants, and in December 2024, Russia disrupted Ukraine's power grid.
Speaking to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, Trump spoke about his desire to end the war and announced that he had received a letter from Zelensky. President Trump read the letter aloud and said he appreciated it.
“Today, I received an important letter from Ukrainian President Zelensky,” President Trump said. “This letter will allow Ukraine to come to the negotiation table as soon as possible. It will bring lasting peace closer. No one wants peace more than the Ukrainians. My team and I are ready to work under President Trump's strong leadership.”

Zelensky's emphasis on peace appears to be in response to Trump's accusations that Ukrainian leaders were not interested in it, following the clash of oval offices last week.
“I feel our involvement gives him a great advantage in negotiations, so President Zelensky has decided that he is not ready for peace if America is involved. I don't want any benefits, I don't want peace.
