The Government Accountability Office is MIA when we need it most

On his first day in office, President Donald Trump unleashed Elon Musk and the government's efficiency, created “to maximize government efficiency and productivity.”

There is a government accountability office, unknown to most Americans, an existing instrument of the US government. The office is led by the Secretary. Which one must do “Investigating all issues related to receipts, payments and public funds.” and “We analyze the spending of each executive body” and “We believe it will help Congress decide whether public funds have been used and spent economically and efficiently.”

Here are some questions people should ask: Secretary Jaundradamid all this chaos?

Redundancy aside, Doge appears to be violating countless laws and causing serious damage to our country. Much of what Doge does is engulfed in secret. The lack of information was a stumbling block in the middle of a lawsuit that challenges various Doge-inspired actions, but GAO said Clear authority Doge obtains records from invading agencies to find out what happened, and what criteria and what happened.

It also not only assesses the legality of Trump's contracts and grant wholesale cancellations, but also includes his “Road junction“Acquiring federal employees is legal. Because he appears to be offering to pay for six months to not do his job.

Of the many laws that the president has infringed, the most prominent and most important Water Storage Management Act of 1974. Like Trump's claims, it was enacted by Congress in response to President Richard Nixon's claims, and the president has the inherent power to refuse Congress to approve it.

supreme court Domination Although the President had no such authority over water pollution control funding, the Water Storage Control Act expressly prohibits refusing to spend all allocated funds, with two exceptions. The President can postpone spending for a short period, as long as he makes it clear that he plans to use it this year. However, if the President wants to completely withdraw some spending, he can curb spending within 45 days, and at that point Congress must amend the law that allows him to withdraw all allocated funds

Law is required The President will send a detailed message to Congress when seeking such reconnaissance, including the amount to be withdrawn, the policies or other reasons for doing so, and the “estimated financial, economic, and budgetary effects” of the withdrawal.

To everyone's surprise, Trump did not send such a message to Congress despite an order to cancel contracts, to stop payments for foreign aid and other programs and to fire employees without planning to exchange them anytime soon.

The Water Storage Management Act is not only a law on land, but 20 years after it was passed, the Supreme Court said. Line Item Rejection Methodclaims that it gives the president a limited power not to spend the money Congress voted for, It was unconstitutional.

Changes to laws providing federal funding expenditures, courts were made only by new laws, both houses passed and signed by the president, and Congress could not allow the president to make such changes unilaterally, even in laws officially enacted in the law.

The conclusion is clear. If the President is unable to impose funds with Congressional permission, he will likely not be able to have the authority to do so when Congress expressly denied that power under the Water Storage Control Act.

Congress directed the Secretary to oversee any withdrawal reports submitted (or not submitted) by the President because he did not trust the President to follow the conduct without oversight. It is subject to specific requirements permission The Secretary to sue the President and others if he fails to earn funds allocated by Congress.

Many victims of the president's illegal funds withholding are being sued to recover them. But where is the Secretary?

Unlike many federal officials, the Secretary doesn't need to be afraid that President Trump can fire him because he works for Congress. law Give the office a 15-year term. He can only be excluded after the opportunity of a hearing and in positive votes in both chambers of Congress, for a limited set of reasons.

If the Secretary actually begins to implement the Water Storage Control Act, President Trump may require Congress to go through a statutory removal process. However, with the current time of the Chief General expires on December 22nd, he can gain much to gain by carrying out his statutory duties to prevent a wholesale violation of the act, an objective that everyone can see.
