Chris Drury did exactly what Rangers needed at deadline

There were many of these utilitarian-type deadlines for rangers than you might remember. Not all of these thresholds are watching Derrick's brassard come.

There are also things like 2008 when Freddie Sjostrom was the main attraction. There's also something like 2011 when Brian McCabe and John Mitchell came to Broadway. Some are like 2004 purges.

And there's the kind of time when general manager Chris Drury secured the returns of impending free agents Ryan Lindgren, Jimmy Vessie and Riley Smith (who no one tried to re-up), while also ensuring he strengthened his roster for a run in the playoff spot and left a heavy life for the summer.

The Rangers enter this deadline weekend with a 18th place record (.540) in the NHL. It's not a bunch of hierarchies going all the way. But at the same time, the Blues Shirts also holds fifth place in the league since January 1st (15-7-4, .654). That's not a group that GMs block at their knees.
