Detective Joseph Azkona was shot and killed, and an unnamed officer was injured on Friday night at New Jersey prosecutor Teodore Stevens in Essex County, announced Saturday.
Prosecutors also confirmed that the 14-year-old suspect was shot dead and is expected to recover from his injuries.
The teenage suspect was charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of an illegal weapon, Stephens told reporters Saturday morning.
Filming took place at 6:30pm near the intersection of Carterlett Street and Broadway. According to Stephens, Azkona had no chance to leave his police vehicle before he was shot.
Both the officer and the teenage suspect were taken to university hospital, where they were declared dead. FOX 5 NY It has been reported. According to a Facebook post from the Mercy Association of Police Officers in New Jersey, the injured officers are “fighting for their lives for their lives.”

New York police have issued a statement lamenting Detective Azkona's death.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy wrote about the incident in an updated X post.
“This is a rapidly developing situation,” he wrote. “Pray for these officers, their families, and all our men and women in uniforms who risk their lives to keep us safe.”
His team confirmed that Murphy and his wife, Tammy, had private visits to University Hospital in Newark.
“The Essex County Prosecutor's Office can confirm that a Newark police officer in Newark was shot dead at 6:37pm tonight in the Broadway and Carterlett areas of Newark,” the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement. “Both officers were taken to university hospital. One of the officers was seriously injured. This is an active and continuous investigation. There is no further information at this time.”

Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said his office is closely monitoring the shooting.
“Our law enforcement officers are doing harm every day to protect our community. Tonight is a scathing reminder of the depth of the sacrifice they make,” according to a statement posted to X.
Within hours, four police officers were shot across the country, according to the brothers' Order of Vice President Joe Gamaldi.
