Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick predicted Sunday on NBC's “congregation” that the US economy would not experience a recession.
Host Kristen Welker said, “Consumer sentiment is declining and inflation is on the rise. Major banks like JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs have said there is a growing possibility of a recession over the next 12 months. Should Americans dress up for the recession?”
Lutnick said, “Absolutely not. Anyone who bets on Donald Trump is like the same people who thought Donald Trump wasn't a winner a year ago. Donald Trump is the winner. He's going to win for the Americans. That's just going to happen.”
He added: “There's no recession in America. It means that global tariffs will fall because President Trump says he wants to charge us 100%. We charge you 100%. You know what they say, no, no, don't charge us 100%. We will defeat us. We will unlock America into the world and grow our economy in a way that we have never grown before. You will see the biggest growth set coming from America as Americans in the next two years. You saw it: $1.3 trillion in new investments are coming to America. Thinking all these jobs, each investment in America is 1% of GDP. Donald Trump is bringing growth to America. I never bet on the recession. There's no chance.”
