Yankees’ Brian Cashman ‘prepared for the worst’ with Gerrit Cole

The New York Yankees organization feels exactly the same with their fanbase.

“[I’m] I prepared for the worst,” said General Manager Brian Cashman. New York Post And Sunday's news day.

Cole experienced discomfort in his throwing elbow after a brutal outing against Minnesota twins on Thursday after the start of his second spring training, and since then serious concerns have swirled around the team's ace.

Cole was tested and imaging on that right elbow on Friday, and he is currently seeking a second opinion on it, but this is by no means a good sign.

Manager Aaron Boone said the update could come on Monday, but Cashman appears to be pessimistic about the situation.

“We'll see how it unfolds,” he added. “I'm always wired to think the worst and hope for the best.

“It's obviously not what you want, but it's ultimately part of our journey in 2025.”

Another important part of the roster, Giancarlo Stanton, is also dealing with elbow injuries as he tries to avoid end-of-season surgery with “severe” tennis elbow on both arms.

Currently there is no timeline for the 2024 Postseason Star. He said adjustments made to the bat last season could be the cause of tendonitis in both elbows.

As for Cole, the obvious worst-case scenario involving pitcher throwing elbows is a UCL injury, which usually leads to Tommy John's surgery.

This will be a dominant blow to the Yankees considering what Cole means to the team in terms of the hopeful World Series Revenge Tour of 2025.

Cole also dealt with an elbow injury in 2024 and closed him a bit in the spring before returning to bump in the regular season. Cashman added that Cole's concerns he admitted on Saturday were not new because of the way he handled last season.

“I was with him in Tampa. Last year, [it was] It's very emotional [for Cole] It was a whole new experience, explained Cashman. “This year, he's already walking this line, so it's not emotional. And since he's already done it, I think he's mentally ready to deal with it. So, that's even the worst case scenario. In general, we're all in a better position to handle something if we've handled it in the past.

How the Yankees can avoid derailing Giancarlo Stanton's injuries

“He's already had a lot of conversations. He's had a lot of engagements with the doctor and I went through this last year.”

However, Cole had not been shut down throughout the season. So Cashman says that the worst-case scenario is prepared, but he knows what will happen if it becomes a reality.

Cashman added that it is “difficult” to make possible moves at this point this year to combat these serious injuries.

Similarly, Marcus Stroman is expected to fill out for Gill, but Will Warren and Carlos “Cookie” Carrasco are potential alternatives if Cole is unable to do any abilities.
