MESA, Arizona – If he evaluates trade from a New York perspective today, even Javier Baes must give the Mets his deal from the Cubs for young outfielder Pete Crow Armstrong.
Crow Armstrong doesn't seem to look like someone who's been hit by a major league cameo at last year, but at 22 years old, he could be in the cusp of Stardom. Cactus League numbers could be a desert mi-pirae, but Crow-Armstrong's .522 batting average and three early home runs are worth noting.
Scouts say that Crow-Armstrong is a very charted centre fielder and base runner, so he needs to hit a bit, and there's more to it. The way he is rocking is now talking at the finest.
“He's the best player I've ever seen,” said the new Cubs' 3 base coach Quintin Berry, who only had a part of his tongue. “He's doing the show. He can run. He's strong. He's stealing the base. He's doing it all.”
