Cargo ship hits a tanker in fiery crash off England

The freighter struck tankers on Monday in a violent crash in the North Sea off the coast of eastern England, causing fuel to flow into local waters.

The tanker, named MV Stena Immaculate, carries petroleum and chemicals, features a US flag, close to Grimsby's port and was at the anchor early Monday. The Associated Press reported. Solon, a freighter with a Portuguese flag, crashed into the Immaculate Confederate flank of Stena on his way to Grangemouth, Scotland.

Stena Immaculate was also involved in a group of commercial vessels that have the ability to contract to carry fuel on behalf of the US military if necessary, the AP reported.

Most of the crew on both ships were safely heading towards shore, according to the Associated Press, but one of Solon's crew was missing, according to a statement from the ship's owner. According to British Coast security guards, the ship continued to burn 12 hours after the collision.

Heidi Alexander, Secretary of Transport for the UK; I said in the post On social platform X, she “is worried after hearing a collision between two ships in the North Sea this morning and is in touch with staff and HM's Coast Guard as the situation develops.”

“I would like to thank all emergency services workers involved in their ongoing efforts to respond to the incident,” she added.

Crowley, a US company and Stena Immaculate's Manager, said Monday. I'll release it “We will work closely with our responding agencies, including HM Coastguard, to secure vessels in restricted safety areas and begin leak containment responses.”

Hill reached out to Ernst Russ and the US Department of Defense for comments.

The Associated Press contributed to the reporting.
