How Zuby Ejiofor blossomed into Big East’s Most Improved Player

Zuby Ejiofor needed a lot of work.

He hesitated, was sure of himself, and wasn't ready for work.

No, this had nothing to do with basketball.

That was his pre-match speech.

“They may have been some of the worst pre-game speeches I've heard in my life,” teammate Brady Dunlap recalled with a laugh Monday at the event with the Applebees' name, image and caricature. “With me [Simeon Wilcher] We expressed our frustration. …He was like a “two of three.” We weren't a “three-man team.” ”

Like his game, Egiofor improved by a ton in that respect.

He found his voice as St. John's vocal leader. This is the role that was passed on to him by Danis Jenkins.

“He was terrible, but he's getting better,” joked Cuddly Richmond. “I think I have a bit of confidence in that and a bit of pep on your steps. He's a vocal guy, so we let him do it.”

He certainly found his game this year, keying Johnny's best regular season, number sixth in 25 years.

The league coach saw it and named the first team in the meeting on Sunday and selected him as the Big East's most improved player a day later.

Honor was given after the 6-foot-9 junior went from Joel Soriano's backup to one of the nation's best big names.

The domestic offensive rebounder on 4.3 boards per game is averaging 14.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Fan favorites also hit the buzzer barter, the two biggest shots of this magical season, with Providence and Marquette knocking down the road.

He is also Johnny's third defensive backbone in terms of efficiency.

Egiofor, a four-star recruit from Texas, began his career in Kansas.

After a season of limited playing time, he entered the transfer portal and chose St. John's in Villanova, TCU and San Diego.

He blossomed in Queen under Rick Pitino.

Ejiofor only played a limited few minutes before the season.

During the offseason, St. Johns recruited other big names and brought Vince Iuvchukw from USC.

Ejiofor was not postponed for the addition and was pleased with the help inside.

“A lot of people may have gone on or went up another path after spending last year, not playing much,” Richmond said.

It's not ejiofor.

He decided to win a major role.

“I knew I had to show a little more than last year,” he said.

He shows himself as one of the country's top forwards.

According to Evanmiya.com on the Analytics website, St. John's is a different team when Egiofort is in court, putting 21 points on the floor for him and 100 belongings compared to when he is on the bench.

“It's a season I couldn't really imagine,” Ejofor said. “It's something that really honestly came out of nowhere. Getting these awards is really special. … Our main focus was winning. That's all year round. Coach “P” says he's playing for the names of the figures on the front and back. That's what we've been doing all year round. ”

There could be more St. John's awards.

Pitino is scheduled to be named Big East Coach of the Year on Wednesday, and RJ Lewis Jr. is a strong contender to become St. John's first player of the year since Walterbury in 1986.

Ejiofor cheers on his best friend Lewis to make history for the Red Storm.

“No one deserves that award. We are the top seed. We know exactly what he brings to the table every night,” Egiofort said. “The award is what he gets. I'm really excited and want to see what happens on Wednesday.”
