Laws allowing armed teachers and staff to defend in classrooms will come in front of their West Virginia home.
The bill, HB 2187, passed the West Virginia House of Representatives Board of Education. According to WSAZ. It will next be scheduled for the House Judiciary Committee.
HB 2187 Correction Current language of West Virginia law “Related to possessing a deadly weapon on the premises of an educational facility. Permits to carrying a hidden firearm to a primary or secondary school teacher, administrator, or support officer and designating it as a school protection officer (SPO).”
The bill also points out the “information” and “specific qualifications” that teachers or staff must meet to become an SPO.
In addition to concealed firearms, the SPO can carry a “stun gun or taser.”
Lootpress It was pointed out That SPO applicant must already have a hidden carry permit and receive additional training under the auspices of the “Security Officer Training Program.” The training program includes “firearm training, de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention, active shooter response, trauma care, and other security-related topics.”
