‘I have my own opinions’

Singer Benson Boone says he grew up as a Mormon and despite his religious upbringing, he feels detached from his faith.

I'll talk Rolling Stonethe 22-year-old hitmaker of “beautiful things,” admits that he doesn't feel “physically present” like everyone else in the Latter-day Saints' Church of Jesus Christ.

“Growing up, many people in the church will talk about these experiences they have experienced, and these personal revelations, feelings and voices,” Boone said. “I was always confused and annoyed because I never felt it physically existed like them.”

“I was always scared to bring it to people because I didn’t want to accept it.

After confiding his feelings to a close friend, Boone said he was relieved that his peers felt the same way.

“I don't want to be part of one religion. I have my own opinion. The alumni of “American Idol” season 19 explained.

Still, his decision to be lost from his religious upbringing did not result in disapproval from his parents.

“My parents definitely have their own views, but when it comes to religion and God, they want me to understand it for myself,” Boone said. “And whatever I come, and whatever I feel right, that's what they want from me.”

As for his current attitude towards faith, Boone admits that he has no interest in alcohol or drugs.

“I personally, I, like a man, I would die,” he said. “Because I have that addictive personality. If I start, I do it, so my health is just waning and I don't enjoy the tour that much.”

However, the Grammy-nominated artist admits he's tried coffee before.

During the pandemic, Boone was at Brigham Young University, a private Mormon University in Utah.

However, he dropped out after just one semester and pursued a career in music, and this year he was nominated for the Grammy Awards Best New Artist category.

The singer's career changed forever after releasing the track “Beautiful Things,” which became the world's most streamed track in 2024.
