The White House is drawing out the nomination of Dave Weldon for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director, which Fox News Digital learned. Weldon was scheduled to hold a confirmation hearing on Thursday.
The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (Help) announced in a statement Thursday morning that it had cancelled the hearing. However, lawmakers have confirmed they will vote for the appointment of US Food and Drug Administration commissioner, director of the National Institutes of Health and Drugs and Dr. Jay Batacharya, Dr. Marty McCurry.
“It was revealed that the votes weren't there in the Senate to confirm him. This would have been a useless effort,” a source familiar with the nominations told Fox News Digital.
Weldon, a doctor and former Florida Representative, has previously issued a statement on the vaccine and was expected to be raised during his hearing. In a 2007 statement, Weldon said there were “legitimate questions” about the potential link between vaccines and childhood neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism.
Additionally, during Congress he introduced legislation with former Congressman Carolyn Maloney (DN.Y.).
