U.N. Judge from Uganda Convicted of Forcing U.K. Woman into Slavery

On Thursday, a ju judge in the UK court convicted a UN judge of forcing a young woman to work her as a slave.

Prosecutors said Lydia Mugambe had forced a Ugandan woman to work as her maid and provide free childcare.

Mugambe, a Uganda High Court judge, received his PhD from Oxford University when the crime occurred.

Prosecutor's lawyer Caroline Haugie told the ju judge during the trial that the accused “exploited and abused” the victim, and brought her to the UK and took advantage of her lack of understanding of her rights, Sky News Report.

Mugambe, 49, refused to file charges. Ju judge at Oxford Crown Court Convicted She forced someone to work and forced a conspiracy to threaten witnesses in all four accusations she faced, including immigration crimes.

According to her UN profile page, Mugambe was appointed to the UN judicial register in May 2023. That was three months after police were called to her address in Oxfordshire.

For the prosecutor, Caroline Housey KC told the court:

A guilty verdict was given, and gasps were heard from the public gallery and the court was liquidated when the defendant appeared to be in a bad mood.

Mugambe will be declared in the same court on May 2nd.
