The White House won't cut Social Security, President Trump's 2024 co-campaign manager Chris Lacivita said in a new interview in response to questions about the need to look into the eligibility spending of tech billionaire Elon Musk.
“They are not going to cut Social Security. They are not going to cut Medicare, they just aren't. That's just scary,” Lashivita said. InterviewPolitico's Dasha Burns pointed out that Musk was talking about Social Security waste, suggesting there could be a reduction.
“He's not the president. He can't make these decisions,” Rashivita said.
“I don't know, I don't speak for him,” says Rashivita, as to why Musk offered to say something in an interview with CNBC's Larry Kudrow.
Musk serves as the president's top advisor and leads efforts to overhaul government spending.
In an interview with Kudlow, Musk said, “The waste and fraud in qualification spending, which is mostly federal spending, are qualifications, and that's a big thing to eliminate.”
Musk also calls Social Security the biggest Ponzi scheme ever.
Trump has long argued that he would not cut Social Security benefits, but he criticized what he described as a fraud in the system. Musk and Trump are under scrutiny over statements about 150 people who have undergone 150 Social Security checks.
Earlier this week, the White House insisted that Trump would not cut Social Security or Medicare.
The White House claimed that Musk was talking about cutting fraud in an interview with Kudrow.
