Senate moves bill forward to prevent closure

A group of 10 Democrats, including Senate minority leaders Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.), voted Friday to advance Republican bills to fund the government until September 30th.

The key procedure vote, which passed 62-28, has placed the bill on Glidepass to pass the Senate on Friday night despite intense opposition from many Democrats.

Senate Majority Leader John Tune (Rs.D.) Announced the contract before 4:30pm on Friday, and voted to immediately proceed with the funding bill passed by the House and consider four amendments to the law.

How did you get here:

Schumer opened the door for Democrat colleagues to vote to move the bill forward by announcing they would do so on Thursday to avoid government shutdowns.
He warned Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk (Trump's main budget cutter) would have immense leverage to lock federal employees out of work and shut federal agencies down for weeks or even months.

Schumer's decision to vote to advance the bill he granted on Thursday was a “very bad” bill, causing an angry backlash. From democratic progressives and house leaders.
