College basketball: Clemson gets locked out of locker room at halftime of ACC semifinal

Clemson missed a trip to the ACC title game on Friday night, but there may be a place to point his fingers.

The Tigers followed Louisville, 10th and 13th respectively, 33-28 at Charlotte on Friday, with both teams heading into the locker room.

However, there was only one problem. Clemson locker rooms will not be open.

The players were locked out for a few minutes, and coach Brad Brownell had to address his team from the hall at the Spectrum Center.

Brownell said that nothing like that had happened “at this level.”

“It's obviously a pity,” he added.

An ACC spokesman said it is unclear how the doors locked from the inside will be locked. The meeting posted security guards outside all locker rooms in all games, and no incidents have been reported so far.

The ACC added two minutes at halftime, but it was clear that Clemson was at least a bit shaking to start the second half. After going for more than six minutes without field goals, they were eventually late at age 15.

The Tigers finally gained momentum, reducing their lead to two at a furious rally, and had the opportunity to take the lead after Louisville was asked to violate a shot clock.

However, James Scott blocked the Hunter drive after turning off his man. Chucky Hepburn made one of two free throws with six seconds left to make a three-point game, chasing a three-point shot from 25 feet that the buzzer missed.

Terrence Edwards scored 21 points, while J'vonne Hadley added 20 points and nine rebounds to the Cardinals. They will need to oppose the top-ranked Duke, who has squealed at longtime rival UNC in the semi-finals without the Cooper Flag, to win the title of the first meeting.
