Sinema calls out Ocasio-Cortez, other Dems over 'sudden change of heart' on filibuster

Former Senator Kirsten Cinema (I-Ariz.) had a fierce interaction with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.) and other Democrats who said they had switched their stance to supporting the Upper Chamber filibuster.

“The Filibuster's Change of Heart,” Cinema embarrassed Arizona Senators in a screenshot of a post from Ocasio-Cortez.

Sinema's comments came when Democrats urged counterparts to use filibusters to prevent House-Gop Led government spending bills from moving forward. The Senate has called for 60 votes to approve the law, but some Democrats have argued that the measure, often used to delay votes, will be repealed in the past.

However, many have called for its use this week to avoid cutting back on healthcare and research as featured in the ongoing resolution (CR).

Ocasio-Cortez said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) felt a deep sense of “anger and betrayal” about the decision to vote in support of the bill.

The New York representative defended her views when forced by the Cinema to change her attitude towards the filibuster, claiming that Democrats would not use filibusters when guaranteed.

“No, yet. In fact, the same dems who claim to maintain a filibuster “when needed” don't actually use it when needed,” Ocasio-Cortez fought back in response to the cinema.

“It's only used to block DEM policies. Don't block harmful GOPs. We may have proved wrong. Instead, they proved the point.”

Cinema allegedly showed some changes in their minds during the vote this week.

“Literally, Senate Democrats support the Filibuster. 38 voted for the Filibuster yesterday for a continuing resolution. The eight people who previously voted to eliminate Filibuster (1/19/22) were not filibusters. Those who previously campaigned against one filibuster were not filibusters.” I said.

It was followed by sarcastic posts targeting Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.).

“Popular take from the left: If you eliminate the filibuster and vote for everything the left wanted, the filibuster threat used by RS will never occur.

“What a breathtaking, undemocratic take.”

Sinema's post is another indication of fractures in the Democratic approach to legislative action.
