Longtime Steelers star Cam Hayward doesn't want a part of the quarterback drama. He sent a message to Aaron Rodgers as the 41-year-old dragged out the NFL free agency decision.
Hayward, 35 years old was asked His podcast: “It's not just football” If he goes to a dark retreat with Rogers to help him recruit him to Pittsburgh.
“I'm not retreating that darkness. I don't need that crap,” said Hayward, a seven-time pro bowler. “You want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or not. It's easy. It's simple. It's pitch. If you want to recruit, that's the recruitment pitch. If you want to be a part of the Pittsburgh Steelers, otherwise you don't have any skin from your back.”
Rodgers was chased by the Steelers and Giants, but after Minnesota lets Sam Darnold walk, he hopes to sign with the Vikings, according to Athletic.
Darnold has signed a three-year, $105.5 million contract with the Suhawks.
The Vikings were able to turn to JJ McCarthy, who missed out on his entire rookie season after undergoing knee surgery.
It is unclear whether the Steelers will re-sign Russell Wilson while the Steelers lost Justinfield to the Jets. Wilson visited with the Browns and Giants.
“I just want to play football,” Hayward said. “I'm tired of talking about the quarterback situation. I want to do it. I don't know what's going on. I don't know.
Pittsburgh reverted Mason Rudolph on a two-year, $8 million contract after departing for a one-year stint with the Titans. Hayward appears happy with the possibility that Rudolph will become the team's starter.
“When we enter the year with Mason, we don't sign quarterback, and we think we're in a good mood about it,” Hayward said. “I'm excited to get him back.”
