Defending NBA champions, the Boston Celtics, will soon gain new ownership. The franchise's current ownership group has agreed to sell the club to William Chisholm for a record $6.1 billion.
ESPN and Sportico were among those who were first reporting a sales agreement.
Chisholm is a managing partner of Symphony Technology Group, a California-based private equity company. The $6.1 billion figure represents the highest purchase price in North American history. The investment group led by Josh Harris previously set the mark in 2023 when it acquired NFL Commander Washington from Daniel Snyder for $6.05 billion.

Chisholm grew up in Massachusetts and was a Celtics fan for years. Boston Gloves It has been reported. According to Globe, current Celtics co-owner Robert Hale is part of the following ownership group: Bruce Beal Jr., the president of the affiliate, is also one of the investors in the new group.

Shortly after the Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in last year's NBA Finals, Boston Basketball Partners LLC of the Grousbeck family has announced their intention to sell the franchise. The family cited the purpose of real estate and family planning. The family has managed the renowned franchise since 2002, when the group closed for a $360 million sale.

WYC Grouseb is expected to represent the NBA board franchise through the 2027-28 season. Boston Basketball Partners LLC is planning to sell its shares in 2028.

Several NBA franchises changed hands in 2023.
The Phoenix Suns were purchased for $4 billion by Matt Ishvia, the owner of a mortgage company. The Milwaukee Bucks were sold for $3.5 billion to Jimmy and Dee Haslam, owners of the Cleveland Browns. Mark Cuba then agreed to sell the majority of Dallas Mavericks' ownership to step-in-law Patrick Dumont, whose majority of Dallas Mavericks ownership is run for $3.5 billion.
