American distilleries are warning consumers of the economic domino effect as other countries are beginning to place retaliatory tariffs on the US beverage industry.
The European Union (EU) delayed the imposition of its first retaliatory tariffs on the United States until mid-April. President Donald Trump Earlier this month it threatened a 25% tariff increase on all steel and aluminum imports, according to Reuters.
The approximately $28 billion measure on US goods, including a 50% tariff on American whiskey, was originally set in stages on April 1st, with the second wave hit on April 13th.
However, the EU decided on Thursday to delay impose all retaliatory tariffs until mid-April, Reuters reported.
The outlet said the delay would allow the EU to negotiate with the US and provide more time to review new tax-related products.

Ireland's Prime Minister Michael Martin, a major whiskey exporter, said on Thursday that delaying measures would be a wise decision and would allow Europe to “respond wisely and strategically.”
