WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The remaining Mets start rotation alignment behind Starter Clay Holmes on Opening Day is in shape.
Manager Carlos Mendoza has not officially announced the rotation, but on Thursday he showed David Peterson and Kodai Senga remained at Port St. Lucie, giving an additional start on the minor league side when the team defeated camp on Monday.
This brings Peterson and Senga to line up in Miami's pitch games 4 and 5, following the season-opening series in Houston.
It leaves Megill and canned for the last two games with the Astros.
Neither Megill nor Canning has been officially named, but team officials are leaning in that direction.
Megill's inclusion in the rotation would place Paul Blackburn as a multi-inning reliever in the bullpen.
“These three guys we're talking about are throwing the ball really well,” Mendoza said, referring to Canning, Megill and Blackburn. “That's why this decision isn't as easy as people think. You can argue for them all.”
Holmes, who has moved from bailout to starter this spring, is scheduled for the final start of his grapefruitree season with the Cardinals on Friday.
AJ Minter has one test that will pass if you start a season with a club or pitch twice in three days.
The left-handed reliever made his appearance three times this spring after surges and slow consumption after last year's hip surgery.
Mendoza's plan is to pitch miners on Saturday and reach decisions on Monday regarding the spots on that roster.
According to Mendoza, Matskranick's ability to provide multiple innings to Mets from Bullpen is a strong selling point for him to include on the first day's roster.
“We need it, especially at the starter at 75, 80, 85 years. [pitches]Mendoza said.
