Communities across the country are seeing immigrants and border control agents apprehending people, regardless of immigration status. People are afraid to go to work and send their children to school, and a new and unsettling level of fear is growing.
And that’s exactly what the Trump administration wants – to foster and thrive on the fears that continue to divide us.
While they told Americans they were targeting “bad and scary” immigrants, it’s been shocking to many that the people targeted by ICE in the first two weeks of February were often innocent – no criminal convictions or pending charges. At the same time, the President is promoting the idea of a “Gold Card” visa for wealthy immigrants, while those who have served the country for years are being detained and caged for the “crime” of being poor, working-class people of color.
