First on Fox: Fox: According to an internal UN email shared with Fox News Digital, President Donald Trump's use of Elon Musk's doge to reduce USAID spending has had a profound impact on the United Nations Department of Security (UNDSS).
Milano Victor Dawor, chairman of the United Nations Field Staff Union, wrote in an email sent early Friday morning that cuts in USAID funding has removed “approximately $30 million” from unbudget (XB) resources, significantly reducing personnel.”
Dawoh's email warns that the United Nations is “currently experiencing the worst liquidity crisis since its establishment.” The situation is expected to get worse before improvements occur.”
Dawoh said UNDSS will lose 100 employees and will eliminate its presence in 35-45 countries, but the remaining 120 countries where UNDS will maintain its presence will establish a “regional hub.”

Farhan Hak, deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, told Fox News Digital that UNDSS had only received about $20 million from USAID last year. “USAID has informed us that some of this funding has been terminated. Other projects will continue to support USAID,” he said.
Dawoh's email shows that losses in UNDSS funding are related to reducing unbudget resources, but HAQ says, “Additional budgetary funds from USAID are a relatively small percentage of the sector's budget, most of which come from the UN budget, the UN's savings resistance mechanisms, and the peace support account.”
According to HAQ, UNDSS has 2,250 staff members worldwide. Haq added: “The majority of the department's workforce is on the ground, and it deserves effective security as New York HQ staff work to save lives, with a much smaller percentage of them serving in the world's most dangerous places.”

Haq said emails sent to multiple UN mail groups on March 19 refer to the fund-related closure of one staff entry to the UN headquarters. “Funding for the UNHQ facility is not from USAID,” explained Haq. He said the temporary closure was instead a result of non-payment of membership fees in some member states.
A UN source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said amidst financial uncertainty, that UN staff are “very afraid of their immediate future.” Sources said the concerns include the ability to collect pensions and access UN federal credit union accounts. “Most of these staff who are losing their jobs are G-4 visas,” the source said.
“This is not just about losing individual jobs, it affects families. It could be massive in the coming weeks with new cuts affecting UN agencies.”
