There’s a smart way to add speed, steals to your fantasy baseball team

Chasing a stolen bass in a fantasy draft is not a victory strategy.

Speed is found throughout the draft and throughout the season, especially as the 2023 changes in MLB rules have raised stolen base rates to the highest levels since the late 1990s.

This clearly does not mean passing stars like Elly de La Cruz or Shohei ohtani. That means you should not overestimate a player worthy of increasing the total stolen base. Draft a balanced roster and provide 10-20 stolen bases in the later rounds, knowing there are plenty of players who can contribute to some categories.

Milwaukee's Garrett Mitchell took a broken hand last year when he hit the pitch during spring training. He also had a walking rate of 11.2% and an on-base percentage of .342. These numbers sounded faithfully to what he did with the minors, hitting .272 with 17 home runs in 154 games, 41 stolen bass and .804 OPS.
