Rockies acquire Tyler Freeman from Guardians in exchange for Nolan Jones

The Rockies and Guardians decide to trade young talent a few days before their first day.

Cleveland sent middle infielder Tyler Freeman to Colorado in exchange for left fielder Nolan Jones in Saturday's deal. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The 25-year-old Freeman has been in his fourth season in MLB and previously spent his entire professional career with the Guardians.

Since being drafted in the second round of the 2017 MLB Draft, Freeman has had little success at the big league level, posting a slash line of .223/.304/.329 in his 206 career games.

However, Freeman has shown promise in spring training, hitting .308 on two home runs in 15 games so far.

The California native is predicted to the Rockies 2 base as the recent free agency signing former yankee Thairo Estrada has come out on the wrist that has broken in 4-8 weeks.

Jones, 26, was drafted by the Guardians in 2017 and was sent to the Rockies after that season after winning the first taste of the majors playing 28 games with Cleveland in 2022.

The previous second pick was a breakout season with the Rockies in 2023, falling below 0.300 with 20 home runs in 106 games.

Jones followed that season with knee problems, missing a fair amount of time, plunging sharply in offensive production, hitting just .227 with three home runs in 79 games.
