Wyatt Hendrickson on faith after big win in NCAA championships

Oklahoma wrestler Wyatt Hendrickson was spectacularly upset against Minnesota's Gable Steveson at the NCAA Wrestling Championship on Saturday in front of President Donald Trump.

Hendrickson won the national title in the 285 pound division. Steveson is an Olympic gold medalist who took a year off from college wrestling to pursue an NFL and WWE career. He went back to school this season, finished his qualifications and made it as long as he went.

The day after his victory, Hendrickson fired a faithful message with the X.

“It just happened. When you have God by your side, there is nothing impossible!” he wrote.

Hendrickson, the second-center eu in the US Air Force, explained more about his belief in post-match media availability with reporters.

“I think there will be a few more days before the emotions settle. But first, I just want to thank my family. I would like to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for blessing me,” he said. He said he focused on that biblical aisle ahead of his final match against Steveson, who was believed to be his favorite.

“I was carrying it all week. He chased Goliath, everyone 'can't do this', he had the heart of a champion and had a vision of victory.

“I went out there and I was brave, and my strength – it worked. I wrestled with that match. I became patient. I went in with the right mindset. Soon, it didn't want to acknowledge the mindset I had to have.

“He dropped me off once, but he dropped him off when it was important.”
