Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Monday that white South Africans facing the threat of violence will be welcomed in the United States.
Rubio's position lies in tension between the South African government and the Trump administration over its country's land expropriation laws and its anti-Israel stance.
In the X post, Rubio mentioned “Kill the Boer.” This is an old anti-apartheid hymn that critics say is a call to anti-white violence and is used to refer to white farmers.

“South African leaders and politicians must take action to protect Africans and other dissatisfied minorities,” Rubio wrote Monday. “The United States is proud to offer it to individuals eligible to enter our country amid the continuing horrific threat of violence.”
The Trump administration opposed South Africa's expropriation law and stance on Israel.
The Land Employment Act allows the government to seizure the land without compensation. In February, Trump issued an executive order punishing South Africa.

“In shockingly and disregarding citizens' rights, the Republic of South Africa recently enacted the Expropriation Act 13 of 2024, allowing the South African government to seize the agricultural property of minority Africans without compensation,” the order states.
Additionally, South Africa has accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in the International Court of Justice. The country is also growing closely with Iran and has plans to develop commercial, military and nuclear arrangements.
Earlier this month, Rubio announced that the US ambassador for South Africa is no longer welcome in the country. In an X post, Rubio was called Embrahim Lasor and called him a “race beatting” politician who hates America and Trump.
