NFL news: JJ McCarthy still not named Vikings starting QB

All signs are pointed out by JJ McCarthy, a man in the heart of the Minnesota Vikings in week one.

Despite his career revival from Sam Darnold, the Vikings decided to move on and he went to the Seattle Seahawks.

And as long as Aaron Rodgers pulls Full Brett Favre and appears to want to go to Minnesota, the emotions don't look like mutual.

Rogers and Russell Wilson are still available, but they don't seem to be in a hurry. So McCarthy, who traded up by the Vikings in 2024, nods.

But that's still a mystery to him.

McCarthy said Fan Duell TV That he hasn't been said to be QB1 yet.

“And I'm glad they didn't do because I try to win it every day and I never want it to be given to me,” McCarthy said. “It's a very privilege and opportunity to give me that opportunity and I'm going to make the most of it every day.”

McCarthy thought he was competing with Darnold last year, but a knee injury at training camp avoided McCarthy throughout the season just months after Michigan helped out with the National Championship.

The Vikings went 14-3 last year, but lost the NFC North Title Game to the Detroit Lions, which led them to the fifth seed in the meeting. They hit the road against the Los Angeles Rams, but it was the exit for the first round.

It was a bad time for Darnold to play the worst two games of his season, but he was still thought to be a bust a few years ago, so he could still make $100 million from his new team.

Assuming he is a man, McCarthy has joined the sturdy corps of Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and TJ Hockenson, and this year's coach Kevin O'Connell is on the sideline.
