Yankees Brett Gardner son Miller Gardner Costa Rica death probe allergic reaction

Costa Rican authorities are investigating whether former Yankee star Brett Gardner's teenage son died from an allergic reaction to a drug given after his asphyxiation was ruled out.

Miller Gardner, 14, was found dead in his bed after a member of his family fell ill after eating at a restaurant near a luxury resort where he and his family members were on vacation.

A few days later, his sudden death remains a mystery.

Investigators are currently investigating whether the teen is allergic to the medication that the family may have been given when they were treated by doctors, sources told ABC News.

“Hotel staff immediately dispatched a medical team, including licensed doctors who arrived to deal with the emergency,” Manuel Antonio's $2,000 per night Arena del Mar Resort said in a statement to ABC News.

The resort added that the protocol “does not allow hotel staff to provide medicines to guests.”

The autopsy has not yet been completed, and authorities warned Tuesday that it could take several months before Gardner could determine how he died.

Costa Rican officials said Tuesday in an investigation into the teen's body that they found his airways unobstructed as investigators first believed the teen had suffocated after vomiting in his bed.
