Terrorist Designation Makes Houthis ‘Stronger, More Powerful’

On Tuesday's “CNN News Central,” Adam Smith (D-WA), a ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, said that placing the designation of terrorism on Houthis would “put Yemeni people in a stronger position and a stronger position.”

Co-host Boris Sanchez said, “As for the content of the action itself, President Biden removed the Houcis from the designation of terrorism. He essentially removed the labels of the terrorist groups you supported. Decade?”

Smith replied, “Well, two things are needed. One, we need to stop them militarily. We need to work with regional partners to cut off the flow of weapons from Iran to the Houssis. The president is right, Houshis will make their weapons, but they [rely] Mainly about the flow of those weapons from Iran to Yemen. Therefore, it must be blocked. And yes, we need to attack them. And I think it's perfectly appropriate to target their leadership. But the second thing that needs to happen is that the people of Yemen need to have some future. Putting it on the list of terrorists didn't stop President Biden's ability to attack them like he repeatedly tried to stop what he was doing in the Red Sea.
