Reports say the hockey goalkeeper playing a Florida Beal League game died of cardiac arrest after crashing into the chest with a Florida ice puck.
The unidentified 64-year-old goalkeeper of Kraken Beers was between a post at the First Igloo Link in Jacksonville on Tuesday night. The Miami Herald reported.
Shortly after absorbing the blow to the chest from the vulcanized rubber disc, the goalkeeper “sadly complained of having finished the game,” the outlet added, citing a police report.
According to the Herald, the goalkeeper still fell on his hockey pad and near the stands, with bystanders rushing to perform the CPR.
A fire rescue responder took him to the hospital, where he died of cardiac arrest.
“This was traumatic and unexpected,” said Alex Reed, communications director for Community First Igloo. First Coast News.

“We're a very close hockey community. I may not have known him personally, but we're all involved in this amazing game together,” Reid added.
A relative of the victim, who was attending a Beer League match, told police, Herald reported that he cited police.
Jerry Stevens, district sports manager for Duval County, Edicine, said the pack to the chest could have been an unfortunate timing issue that could have caused what was known as Cordio Cordis.
“What happens is that object bumps into the chest at perfect timing, disrupting the normal rhythm of the heart, causing the heart to stop,” he told First Coast News.
