‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor diagnosed with ALS

Eric Dane has been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

According to Mayo Clinic, ALS is a “neurological disease that affects neurons in the brain and spinal cord.”

It can cause loss of muscle control and dementia as well as breathing and feeding problems.

According to the ALS Association, patients usually live for three years after being diagnosed with the disease, but can live for decades.

Others who fought the ALS include Stephen Hawking. Lou Gehrig, a Yankees player who passed away in 1941. Stephen Hillenburg, creator of “Spongebob Squarepants”; and Johnstone, creator of “Sesame Street.”
