The police chief sought laws allowing positive discrimination after his forces were exposed for a temporary ban on white candidates to help recruit ethnic minorities.
West Yorkshire Police Chief John Robbins defended racism in police employment practices; I'm saying, Telegraph, He was on the previous demand that “laws should change” to allow for the prioritization of minorities over white candidates.
A spokesman for the unit said, “The position of the police officer has not changed. What he has is a national view.”
Robbins previously argued that the government should introduce legislation allowing “positive discrimination” as other efforts to increase police diversity failed in 2023. He argued that such a move would not lead to a decline in standards.
It comes after West Yorkshire Police reportedly banned the hiring of white candidates while allowing applications from people in “underrepresented groups.”
The whistleblower claims that the military created a desirable ethnic tier system, and ranks “gold” in terms of black and East Asian candidates being desirable. In contrast, Southeast Asians are reportedly ranked “silver”, while “other white people”, including Irish and European candidates, were ranked as the “bronze” class.
The report has raised accusations of racial bias against white people and positive discrimination that is illegal in England and Wales.
Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss I wrote it X: “I can't stand the police chiefs openly pursuing racist employment policies and making political statements. Again, decisions are being made by unexplained people captured by awakened ideology. The Secretary of the Interior should regain control.”
Conservative MP Neil O'Brien added: “What the West Yorkshire Police do with racist employment policies and different ethnic groups divisions is raging across the edge of the law. It's not surprising that they have discovered that the law will be changed to legalize these racist employment policies.
“West Yorkshire gun crime is at record highs, and many people may think local police should focus on what's more important.”
Police argue that while minorities were accessed preferentially during the application phase, the same criteria will ultimately be used to evaluate all applicants during the employment process.
The left-wing labor government has shut down opposition calls to ban such practices by police, and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has argued that West Yorkshire Police are following “fair recruitment standards.”
