Missing Madalina Cojocari: NC police release age-progression photo of teen

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — North Carolina State Police released aging photos on Friday of 11-year-old Cornelius girl Madalina Kohokari, who was 11, when she disappeared from her home on her 14th birthday in November 2022.

Her loss disappears remained unresolved to this day, and her parents – the main suspect previously charged in connection with her loss – was subsequently released from prison. Her mother, Diana Kohokari, fled the country after her release.

“The Madalina investigation began in December 2022,” Cornelius Police Chief David Baucom said in a video posted on the department's Facebook page on Friday. “Madalina last saw her get off the school bus on November 21, 2022. Today marks her 14th birthday.”

“I want Madalina and this community to know that we are committed to solving this case. Our commitment never wavers and will not stop until we find Madalina,” Baucom continued.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children produced pre-aged photos released Friday.

Authorities noted that a $25,000 reward has been provided for information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible for Madalina's loss of.

Despite the fact that Madalina was last seen publicly on November 21, 2022, upon getting off the school bus, her mother and stepfather Christopher Palmiter did not report her missing until December 15, 2022.

Diana told school officials and Cornelius police that she had never seen her daughter, a sixth grade student at Bailey Middle School, born in Moldova.

Palmitor said on November 24, 2022 that he “dried “some items” to the “some items” home to recover some items,” after an argument with his wife. According to the affidavit, Diana entered her daughter's room around 11:30 that morning and discovered that the 11-year-old was gone.

When Permitor returned to Cornelius on November 26th, Diana clearly asked where her daughter was. The affidavit says that Palmiter asked her the same question in return.

Police had no idea about Madalina's disappearance until the 11-year-old middle school reported the school's refusal.

Diana and Palmitar were arrested and accused of failing to report the missing child in 2022.

Diana spent several months in prison and pleaded guilty in May 2024 after authorities released her.

Palmitar then filed for divorce. This was officially made this March.

In late June 2024, Cornelius police named Diana the main suspect in Madalina's loss of failure, but by that point he had probably already left the United States because of Moldova.

“She eventually left the country,” Baucom previously told Fox News Digital in an interview last year. “I don't know the exact date she left the country,” Baucom said. He later added that there were no restrictions preventing her from escaping America.

Baucom said when Diana was first arrested in 2022.[s]He was charged and served time for the only claim we could maintain in the first part of the investigation. ”

The police were able to contact After her release, she was with Diana while she was still at Cornelius, but authorities reached out to federal authorities to track her exact location and help her pursue her overseas.

Diana lived in the United States on a green card. Baucom said last year, based on investigations up to that point, Cornelius police believe Madalina has never left the United States.

The case's search warrant suggests that Diana and her mother contacted distant relatives who asked if they would help “smuggle” Diana and Madalina from Cornelius's home before Madalina disappeared, according to phone records obtained by the Cornelius Police Department.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about Madalina's location to contact CPD at 704-892-7773.
