The US representative Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) will lead the new House Cartel Task Force.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and HPSCI Chairman Rick Crawford announced the establishment of a Cartel Task Force on Friday. According to a statement from HPSCI, the task force’s mission is to help Republicans build a consensus with the US Senate and the Trump administration to combat the threat posed by various cartels in the Western Hemisphere.
In July 2023, then house speaker Kevin McCarthy tapped Crenshaw to have a new Congressional task force focused on the fight against the deadly Mexican drug cartel. This year, Crenshaw asked Johnson speakers to designate the committee as a House Select Committee. He repeatedly promoted the use of military force against Mexican cartels and promptly promoted its designation as a foreign terrorist organization.
