Blue Origin Completes All-Female Mission to the Edge of Space

Blue Origin successfully launched and landed the first all-female crew on Monday morning, a star-studded group that includes pop star Katy Perry, television host Gayle King and Jeff Bezée Lauren Sanchez. On the 11-minute flight, the woman was taken to the edge of space.

Blue Origin, a space company founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos, successfully launched and landed the first all-female crew. The new Shepherd mission, NS-31, has brought a group of six women, including pop sensation Katy Perry, television host Gail King and Bezos’ fiancee Lauren Sanchez, into a short but impactful travel universe.

The mission lasted less than 11 minutes, so the crew capsule reached an apogee 346,802 feet or 65.7 miles above ground before landing safely in West Texas. The booster separated from the capsule during flight also reached a similar altitude before landing normally.

The crew expressed their joy and gratitude when they returned to Earth. Katy Perry, who sang “What a Wonderful World” in space, emphasized the importance of collective energy and the importance of creating space for future women. She also shared an emotional moment, honouring her four-year-old daughter, Daisy, and revealed that she carried her daisy flowers to share with her husband, Orlando Bloom.

Gail King, who had previously expressed his fear of flying, described the experience as transformative. She praised peace and quiet universes, noting that it was a reminder of the need for humans to “better and better.” King also highlighted the kindness and collaboration needed to make the mission a success, expressing his hope that everyone can experience the same sense of peace and unity.

In addition to Perry, King and Sanchez, the mission included film producer Kerianne Flynn, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bow, and civil rights activist Amanda Nuguen.
