DC officer stabbed just before Secretary Sean Duffy’s visit on transit safety: video

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy unexpectedly came across a violent incident against a police officer in the middle of Washington, D.C. Tuesday afternoon.

In a post on X, Duffy explained that he was walking to the Navy Yard Metro Station when his staff told him that Washington’s Metropolitan Transportation Agency (WMATA) police officers had just been stabbed in the face. When Duffy learned of the incident, he said he was trying to talk about the safety of the passage.

Wmata later confirmed the incident with Fox News Digital and said that the officer was stabbed “with a sharp metal object” by a suspect who had not paid the fare at the station.

“The officers maintained a laceration in the face and punctured the wound,” a Wmata official said. “The suspect was taken into custody by additional officers nearby. The suspect was arrested and the weapon was recovered.”

On social media, Trump administration officials described the incident as “terrifying.”

“My thoughts are with his family and we wish him a prompt recovery,” Duffy wrote. “These nonsensical acts of violence are why @USDOT is fighting to reinforce our transport system and crack down on violent crime.”

Duffy also said he plans to meet with WMATA CEO to deal with the incident.

Duffy also shared a photo of herself shaking hands with police officers and said the victim was fine after the attack.

“Thankfully, the officers attacked were fine after the incident,” Duffy explained. “@USDOT Security details could give him the first aide [sic]. He said he was bitten, beaten and attacked almost daily.

“Thank you to him and all the brave officers of @metrotransitpd,” he added. “They risk their lives every day to keep us safe. We cannot tolerate violence against them, and we must do better.”

Duffy also posted a video of herself shortly after learning of the incident, appearing to be confused by the violence.

“I got off, I talked to people on the subway and talked about safety and cleanliness,” Duffy explained. “But before I got off, one of our big city cops was stabbed in the face by someone in the system.

“Again, it’s unacceptable. Our executives, our people deserve better treated.”
