The Rockies are shaking things after the terrifying start of the 2025 MLB season.
The franchise attacked coach Hensley Mullens on Thursday, replacing him with former manager Clint Hurdle.
The Meulens have been Colorado’s hit coach since 2022 after a brief stint with Mets in 2020.
“We’re not producing offensively,” said Bill Schmidt, general manager of the Rockies. All MLB.com. “It’s been a struggle so far. I’m trying to change my voice a little with Clint. I’m just respecting ‘Bumbam’. [Meulens]his work ethics and his knowledge as a baseball man. I wish him the best. To make an attack, we had to make some changes to the attack. ”
Heading towards Thursday’s play, the Rockies ranked dead lasts with WRC+ (65) and led the majors with a strikeout rate of 29.6.
They played in one of the league’s most batsman friendly ballparks, but the Rockies’ 12-runs were tied up at the second fair in baseball this season before action on Thursday.
“It was a struggle from day one between strikeout and lack of production,” Schmidt continued. “I think this move will help. Clint is the right person at the right time and has knowledge with the majority of the position player groups he works in the minor leagues.
The team now spent 2002-09 as Rockies Manager, moving on to 534-625, leading the franchise to its first and only World Series appearance in 2007.
Before becoming manager, Hurdle served as the Rockies hit coach from 1997 to 2002.
After a stint in Colorado, Hurdle spent nine seasons as the Pirates manager and made three postseasons.
Riding on a 6-game losing streak, 3-15, the Rockies have the worst record in baseball.
Colorado has lost more than 100 games in each of the last two seasons and has not put together a winning campaign since 2018.
Despite another late start, Bad Black is the manager of the Rockies, a position he has held since the 2017 season.
“Buddy did a good job. It’s tough right now,” Schmidt said. “I think he was a positive influence. Our guys get to play hard every day, and that’s what I see. Like I said, I’m looking for growth to continue growing. [to] I think good things will happen if you take this attack in the right direction. ”
