Full-time at Masapequa Soccer Shop.
The family-owned business, a staple food for almost 53 years in the Long Island soccer community, will close its doors in June.
“I was 13, but my mother and I really started a store,” Helen Fishman, owner of the business with his brother Mark Bordenstein, told Post. “I’ve been here for the rest of my life.”
Fishman and Bodenstein chose to close to take a modest retirement, but not before a sincere appreciation came.
“I don’t think the support and memories poured in over the past few days were noticeable the impact my brother and we had,” Fishman said.
She added that Massa Pequa Soccer’s great Christie Wales, who played for the US women’s national team, even contacted her by “beautiful” emails about how the store influenced her youth as a frequent client.
“The people from the past are people who have returned, memories, that’s totally overwhelming,” Fishman said. “It’s incredible. I know the names of people I’ve known for 20 or 30 years ago.”
The owner’s memory is very clear.
“I said, ‘Where are you playing? What do you want to do?'” she said.
“We really care about people, and now we thank you.
