Iranian spy manages to infiltrate FAA, become US citizen

Iranian spies were able to go on their path to the Federal Aviation Administration and even became US citizens despite previously serving in foreign military organizations related to terrorism.

On Wednesday, 42-year-old Abouzar Rahmati pleaded guilty to acting as an agent of a foreign government without prior notice to the Attorney General and the conspiracy.

According to a press release from Ministry of JusticeRahmati frequently interacted with senior Iranian officials from December 2017 to June 2024, providing important information on American aviation infrastructure without approval.

In his plan, Rahmati worked as a FAA contractor. The FAA contractor is a job that granted him “access to sensitive, private information about the US aviation sector.” Ramati also obtained “open source and non-public material on the US solar energy industry” and communicated it to Iranian leaders.

Lahamati “lied” to US officials about his past military experience in order to ensure he works with companies that contract with the federal government.

While working for a federal contracting company, Rahmati downloaded at least 172 GB of data, including “sensitive” documents regarding the National Aerospace System and its airport surveillance radar network. He then sent the data to members of the Iranian government by order in April 2022, the DOJ alleged.

That same month, he sent his brother, who lives in Iran, with similar material on “solar energy, solar panels, FAA, US airports, US air traffic control towers,” adding that his brother would pass the information to Iranian intelligence agency. Again, he did so under the direction of the Iranian government.

Court documents alleged that Ramati “applied for multiple positions in private companies and US government agencies that allow access to confidential information.”

The document reiterated that “at one time” is Rahmati in diplomatic or other formal positions that should have at least made rational communication. He also never informed the U.S. Attorney General that he intends to act as an agent or official of a foreign government.

Given his background, it is strange that Rahmati accessed such important American information and secured employment positions. Ramati was born in Iran and earned an undergraduate and master’s degree in technology-related fields from Tehran University.

From June 2009 to May 2010, he was drafted into service in 2019 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, an Iranian military and anti-intellectual group that the US government designated as a foreign terrorist organization.

According to court documents, Ramati “lied” to US officials about his past military experience in order to ensure he works with companies that contract with the federal government.

When he moved to the United States, he received his Masters and PhD in Science. Court documents from American universities said. News of his belief comes as liberals across the United States express their hatred of the United States and lament the cancellation of student visas for foreign Indigenous peoples who are otherwise consistent with terrorist organizations.

Ramati is currently a naturalized US citizen living in Great Falls, Virginia.

Due to his guilty plea, Ramati faces five years of conspiracy, in prison for up to 10 years to act as a foreign agent without prior notice to the Attorney General. He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 26th.
