The Texas female lieutenant was shot dead and also injured Monday near the Harris County Family Law Center in downtown Houston, authorities said.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said he was reported to be shot at the criminal justice complex around 12:30pm on the Harris County PCT, where authorities were injured. One vice-chairman of constable, identified as Sheila Jones, was transported by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Medical Center.

Jones was working on security at the Family Law Center when the violent altercation occurred. After seeing the suspect carrying a weapon, lawmakers chased him before he was said to have fired, police said.
After Jones was shot dead, other deputies shot the suspect. The number of shots fired was not clear.
Jones and the suspect are expected to recover.

The motive for the shooting has not been determined.
Jones, an Army veteran whose son serves the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, has worked for law enforcement for 30 years, with the last two working at Harris County District Officer 1, officials told reporters on the scene.
She usually worked for the county attorney’s office.
