O’Leary: Trump Won’t Dare to Fire Powell!

O'Leary: Trump not going to fire Powell

On Monday, “Shark Tank” investor Kevin O’Leary suggested that President Trump should not dismiss Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

“It’s not wise to rebuke the Fed. That’s a poor choice,” O’Leary stated during an interview with NewsNation’s “The Hill” on Monday night. “You want the Fed and corporate leaders to collaborate. That’s the reason the market seeks a Fed that operates independently.”

“The global consensus is for a Fed that is autonomous. The Fed also oversees the debt market,” he added. “There’s no reason to forget that. I don’t wish for these bonds to become volatile.”

The Canadian entrepreneur remarked, “Powell has done well. Trump is unlikely to terminate him. This will also pass. Focus on the signals, not the distractions.”

His comments arise amidst increasing tension between Trump and the Fed chair. The president referred to investment bankers as “major losers” and has criticized Powell for not reducing interest rates, which he believes affects economic sentiment in light of the administration’s crucial tariff policies.

“If the losers are too late and interest rates aren’t reduced, it could lead to an economic slowdown,” Trump stated in his post on True Society.

O’Leary is a strong supporter of Trump’s recent tariffs, especially regarding tariffs on China.

In a discussion, investors noted that Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping were engaged in a “chicken game.”

“I’m fixated on this Chinese issue, but I appreciate that [Trump is] applying pressure on this deal… we must acknowledge it’s no longer solely a trade matter with China,” O’Leary remarked.

“It’s about intellectual property rights. It’s their access to the marketplace,” he continued. “Chinese firms are trading capital in the American market. China operates differently than other trade partners.”

On Monday, he reiterated his desire to implement 400% tariffs on Chinese goods being imported to the US.

“I want to do this. 400%. Halt every shipment in transit. Inform everyone and say, ‘Wow, amazing.’ Sometimes, you need to exaggerate things like this, akin to Trump. It’s a chicken game where two vehicles must approach each other,” said “Shark Tank.”

“I favor 400, you know why? It has a nice ring to it,” he added. “400% tariff…400… I’ve always been fond of it.”
