Dad arrested for shooting bear that was ‘within feet’ of his kids

The Connecticut father was arrested for fatally shooting a black bear outside his home, despite claiming that the horrifying animal was self-defense after coming to the child’s “in the legs.”

Topic realizes that he fired several warning shots into the air and ran the bear into the forest – a neighbor unintentionally shot it after warning the police to the dead bear.

His father was arrested two weeks later by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).

“You must contact me deeply and shoot and kill the bear, so we have to arrest you again and charge you again for illegally stealing the bear,” Topic said.

The arrests confused the topic. The 2023 law says people can kill bears in self-defense if they can trust animals to physically harm humans, injure or kill human pets, or trust them to be in buildings occupied by them.

“We were all threatened. It went into our house and I don’t know why Deep charged me for this,” Topic said.

State lawmakers have since written to deep commissioner Katie Dykes, seeking clarification about his arrest.

“The Energy and Environmental Protection Agency has not commented on the case. Why was the case sealed? If so, this deep statement on public safety issues can resolve the confusion and better communicate communication with our members.”

Toppz said he is running an accelerated rehabilitation program for his first-time offenders.

As long as he has completed the program, no claim will be filed against him.

Deep did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
