The Trump administration has received official trade offers from 18 countries, and its trade negotiation team is scheduled to meet with 34 countries this week, the White House announced Tuesday.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt provided an update on trade negotiations during a briefing on Tuesday.
“There are a lot of progress. There are currently 18 proposals on the paper brought to the trade team,” she elaborated. “Again, these are paper proposals that countries have proposed to the Trump administration and the government.”
More than 100 countries have expressed interest in conducting transactions, according to the spokesman.
“We have an entire trade team where Secretary Becent, Secretary Lutnick, Ambassador Greer, NEC Director Hassett and Peter Navarro meet with 34 countries this week,” she added. “We are moving at Trump speed to ensure these transactions are made on behalf of American workers and Americans.”
Leavitt also emphasized that Vice President JD Vance announced on Monday that the US and India had established terms of trade mandate.
“That’s a big deal. Looking at the numbers, the barriers to financial trade, and the non-financial trade barriers from India, they have torn apart the US and American workers for a very long time,” she said.
“So the fact that Prime Minister Modi announced these mandates along with the Prime Minister on his trip in India is essentially a framework for moving the ball forward.
Leavitt also revealed that the president said trade negotiations between the US and China are “going very well.”
“I asked the President about this before I came here. He wanted you to share with you all what we’re doing very well with the potential trade deals with China,” she shared.
