Abbott signs bill to create Texas’ own version of DOGE

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill Wednesday that would create its own version of the state’s own government efficiency (DOGE) to remove unnecessary rules and slash regulations.

In Austin, Abbott signed SB 14. This creates a Texas regulatory efficiency office and streamlines the way state agencies establish and enforce regulations.

“The regulatory environment in Texas is becoming too much of a burden,” Abbott said before placing the pen on paper. “The Texas regulatory environment is well known for its goodness, but it doesn’t seem as easy to navigate as it once was.”

An advisory panel will be created to work with the governor’s office to streamline the process. It consists of employers, researchers, state institutions, and the public.

The bill also aims to create an accessible online portal, allowing citizens to look into state regulations.

“Texans in Texas, they deserve a simple English regulation that you can understand what they mean,” said Dustin Burrows, Republican chairman of Texas House. “They deserve to know what they are actually doing and they deserve to make sure they are consistent and as few as possible.”

The law was written by state Republican Sen. Phil King and supported by Gov. Dan Patrick.

It passed the Texas home 26-5 in the Senate with 97-51 votes.

The bill is similar to what the Trump administration aimed to use Doge by removing unnecessary rules and eradicating fraud and wasted spending.

Abbott said he “crystallized” what Texas legislators were trying to achieve.

“It gave it a strategy,” he said. “Texas Doge will lead to reduced spending, reduced regulations and a more user-friendly government.”
