John Goodman is not ready to say goodbye to one of his most iconic characters.

In a recent interview with peoplethe 72-year-old actor shared how “Connors” approaches its end and says goodbye to Dan Connor, who began performing nearly 40 years ago.

“That’s really difficult,” he told the outlet. “That’s something I’ll miss for a while. I’m old and resisting change.”

Goodman began playing Dan Connor in the hit show Roseanne in 1988. This was run for nine seasons before airing the final episode in 1997. The series revolves around the Blue Collar Conner family and is celebrated with portrayals of worker-class reality that resonated with the audience.

More than 20 years after the original show ended, the entire cast has returned to a reboot of the popular sitcom titled “Roseanne” which lasted a season. Following a controversial tweet created by star Roseanne Barr, the reboot has been rebranded as “The Conners,” a new show featuring the same cast members except Barr.

“When I put this together it was very exciting, but it seems like it was two weeks ago,” Goodman said. “I just show up every day and be here with everyone. It’s the perfect place for work.”

Just like the original show, Goodman believes the reboot resonated with viewers. This is because it shines the spotlight on “normal families who are really opposed.”

“It’s really hard. That’s something I’ll miss for a while. I’m old and I’m resistant to change.”

When he appeared on the “Smartless” podcast in June 2024, the actor spoke about his career struggles and how he became cautious about choosing a role in the entertainment industry in 50 years.

“It’s a huge difference now. I feel like I’m still learning,” he said. “The last few years have been a goofy thing for me. It’s not going to work because I’m trying to do good. You could have threatened to lose faith in yourself as if you were planning things too much and at the very least.”

Goodman went on to say that “too much work is overcompensated,” but “after “actually having a nervous breakdown,” he said, “I learned the importance of relaxing when you do things.”

“You need to be ready to listen to yourself. You have to relax. For me, that was the key,” he explained. “I already know this, and that’s one of the things I didn’t trust myself.”
